Nope, it’s worth that all day.

Yup. True story.

and sometimes less, Don, you scoundrel;)
he’ll get that as a BuyNow quickly, I imagine.
It looks to be in good shape but the rear tote is questionable.

I’d call it very uncommon, approaching rare.
.
The smaller ones are just desirable to complete a set. I don’t consider them very functional, but I’d still love to have one. I guess I’ve got to get the #2 first, though;)

I’ve got a #2… can’t say I’ve used it yet (maybe because it’s just cleaned up, not sharpened yet)...
I’d also like a #1, but unless I find one in the wild and the seller doesn’t want that much, I doubt I ever will…

^I might get the LN for S&G. With the blade backed out, it would make a sweet paperweight at work:)

therookie, remember that something is worth (dollarwise) only what someone else is willing to pay. If you look at expired auctions for other Stanley No. 1 planes on eBay, you’ll find they sell for well over $1000.

Not worth that much to a wood worker.
Worth that much to a plane collector.

As already noted, the value of collectible items bears no relation to their functionality.

I’ve even heard some folks argue that the #1’s were really only intended to be salesmen’s samples. I have a #2, and even it is too small to get a good grip on and use comfortably.

I just paid that much for a #2 at a yard sale. Or, was it a garage sale? Anyway, I forget. Needs a lot of work. BTW, can I expect to be able to buy a yard, garage or estate at any of the forenamed sales? And, it’s really confusing as to what to expect. Is garage better than yard or estate better than garage? It’s all so confusing. Help me out here Lumber Hogs.
