I like most of you have a mess of Buddies. As a Buddy I want to see what they’ve posted and responded to. When I go to my Buddy list to see the latest postings I find the list is full of A1Jim welcoming a new LJ’er. I am not at issue to Jim’s welcome to the newbies it’s just that most of all of these yahoos are ROBO Spammers that Martin either can’t or won’t control.

And here lies the rub. As a result of this daily onslaught of Spamming yahoos when I visit my buddies list to see what they have posted I have to scroll through 10-20 or more robo welcomes.

I guess this is just me venting because I haven’t a solution other than letting Martin welcome them aboard and his such post excluded from the Buddies activity list.

Anyway I found the tylenol, next time.

I can see where that would be an issue, and I can’t think of an easy solution.

I use my buddy list a little differently. I have email notifications set to send me a notice when one of my buddies starts a topic , blog, or project post. I can click the email link to go straight to the post. I may miss out on posts they just comment on, but at least it keeps me from sorting through a lot of stuff I’m not interested in.

I too hate those welcomes to me it’s just a way to increase your number of posting.

Having a ‘Mess” of Buddies is not such a great way to keep track of who’s posting what. I just go to “Forums” and read and scroll back to 24 hrs ago, or whenever I last visited the site. I do agree that the self-appointed gatekeepers are asleep at the wheel when they welcome ’Derma-soft’ or ’Herbal Vita-Lift’ as new members!

I do the same as Charlie and I watch pulse when I have time to actually look beyond the emails.

To solve this problem, I think it would be a useful feature if posts to a profile were treated differently from posts to other threads. Then maybe such posts could be made to not appear in the Buddy activity list.

Actually, a profile is already different from an ordinary thread because it can’t be flagged, which is something else that could change for the better.

Hey Bob

Thanks for making me your buddy but I will understand if you need to unbuddy me I’ve PMed a couple of my good friends( like Mads and Degoose who use to post 5-6 times a day on many days) on LJ saying That all there post was to much to keep up with and I needed to unbuddy them,Kinda ironic for a guy who has as many post as I have huh? I still have a lot of buddies but for the most part I look at the pluse page and follow the post I like.
I liked your beard better when it made you look like Santa LOL . All is cool buddy.
To others commenting about individual post counts , Just for the record it would be fine with me if Martin did not include welcome posts in the post count. Many new folks say they are impressed on how friendly Ljs is and mentioning being welcomed by so many members.

Someone please explain to me the importance of post count. This is the second time today I’ve heard it come up. Am I missing something? Is there an award Ford Fiesta in there somewhere?
.
Jag, I stopped the e-mail notifications b/c many of my buddies are as wordy as me. I figure I’ll catch it at some point and apologize if I’m late. Buddies understand. If someone declares that they’re new, I’ll welcome them. Otherwise, they’re just another member, just like me.

With the most post count you make yourself NO1 and then you get the flowers.

Maybe LJs should work like the old arcade games. You deposit a quarter into your monitor, and you can make a comment – for four quarters you get to make five comments!

Certainly, I wouldn’t make a stupid comment like this!

Thanks Jim but I think I’ll just carry on.

I appreciate a lot of what you have say. I knew you’d understand that using you as an example wasn’t personnel. As for the beard it’s not quite that long now. I just wanted to show off for a while. I’ll put old Santa back up soon.

As to the post count others have envy of…???? Whatever!
I never sawthe post count as meaning anything. I’ve never had post envy. My post is quite large enough. 8)
