If you live in Southern Michigan, NW Ohio, or NE Indiana, you might want to mark your shop calendars for the Wood Expo at Johnson’s Workbench in Charlotte, MI on September 7 and 8. I go to the show every year and try not to spend myself into the poorhouse. Great deals on lumber, tool demos, lots of informational sessions. Since there are no more Wood Shows in the area, this is about the only chance we get for such fun.

Perhaps I’ll see you there Saturday morning!

Matt

I hope to be able to go. I have to be back for a youth football game at 2:30 on Saturday. This will be my first trip to the wood expo, I have bought wood there before. I think it is a great place.

Expo was great! Can’t believe I didn’t spend a dime. Met some guys from the woodworkers guild and might join them for an upcoming meeting. Saw this cool steam engine driven workshop on wheels:

It had one small engine, and all the tools where running with tons of power to spare. It was like the old times version of a Shopsmith.

Allen Deming was there from Mackinaw Watercraft and gave a talk about strip built canoes and yaks. He had several in his booth and couple hanging in the store. I’m gathering info and resources to build something that floats.
