Topic tags/keywords: hand plane plane

Here is a old plane that I picked up the other day from my dads garage. I’m not sure what model it is or how old or if it’s any good for that matter. I have just cleaned it up and flattened the bottom of the bed. I also took and sanded the handles down and stained/varnished them. They were really bad shape.

The only thing I can see at all is it says < No 3 > on the bed.

I can’t remember if this had a bottom bevel or top bevel either. Seems like it was a bottom and if that’s the case it’s a smoother correct?

I’ve got a hand plane kick the past few days trying to get all the information I can about them, researching and everything else you can imagine :)

thanks,

kevin

Its got a pressed steel frog and iron adjuster. Its an economically produced plane. It can be made to work, but it’s not something I’d go after, but if its got sentimental value, its worth keeping.

Finding its maker may be impossible. It probably had a paper sticker on it that fell off the 3rd time it was used.

That’s sorta the direction I was leaning toward also. I’ll keep it since it was my Dad’s and he’s no longer with me.

Thanks Don!

Sadly, I have one with that same style depth adjuster. The only marking I can find on mine is “Solar” on the iron.
