Topic tags/keywords: question resource sander jet wmh

A while back my local Wooodcraft was offering 10% off of all power tools, so I took advantage and ordered the Jet 1020 drum sander that I’d been wanting to buy for some time. When I ordered it they said it would take a week or two to come in – well that was over a month ago, and today – still no sander! My Woodcraft store is now offering everyone who ordered Jet tools their money back because they have no idea when they’ll get product in – they said they couldn’t get a straight answer from Jet, and all they’ve gotten in recently is several air cleaners, but nothing else.

I was wondering if anyone else has run into the same thing recently when trying to purchase anything from the WMH Group (who owns Jet, Powermatic, and Wilton). At this point I think I’m going to wait it out since I really want this sander, but it makes me wonder what the heck is going on at Jet! I can understand having an occasional backorder problem with a particular item, but for Woodcraft to tell me they’re not able to get ANYTHING from Jet makes me really question what’s going on there.

Anybody else having this problem?

That’s pretty unacceptable. Who wants their money back after a month?
.
I’ve always been a JET guy. It just seems like every company nowadays could care less about the consumer. I see it more and more every day. Sad, really.

I buy a lot of Jet stuff also, I have always gotten it from CPO Jet or sometimes Amazon….way better prices than ANY sale that Woodcraft or Rockler EVER have.

I bought my 16-32 sander from CPO..plus no tax and free shipping from both places

I am enemies of woodcraft right now.
They say the Powermatic and Jet ship directly from the factury.
That now elimenates my idea of buying the powermatic benchtop mortiser.
Sadface :/

I almost bought the PM mortiser but I went with the JET. Like Knothead, bought it from Amazon. I guess you could consider getting your money back and buying it through Amazon. Might actually save you some time.
.
nevermind, they don’t sell it. just checked.

Knothead – My issue doesn’t have to do with pricing, but with delivery from the factory. Woodcraft is and has always been an excellent company to deal with, and they are in this case, too, and I’ll continue to give them my business especially since it helps support our local economy.

Actually Amazon does sell it for the same price as CPO. This is it, right?

Bertha – yep, that’s it. It’s the same price no matter where you buy it – Amazon, CPO, Woodcraft. Like I said, I bought it from Woodcraft since they were offering 10% off and I also had a gift card to use up, so it made sense to me. Right now, Amazon is showing it in stock, so maybe they don’t ship direct from the manufacturer but actually keep this in inventory? That doesn’t seem to make sense, but you never know….

Hmm, when I hear a supplier isn’t shipping anything (but some lower priced items) to a store, it makes me ponder the store’s payment history. Just because a franchise holder has the Woodcraft sign out front, doesn’t mean Woodcraft pays the invoices.

I don’t mean to cast an unfounded supposition on the store, just speaking in a general sense about retail stores and shipments from their suppliers.

Each woodcraft is independently owned, and there may be other issues that are causing your WMH tools delay. Most woodcraft’s sell Sawstop tools for example, however the one here in Orlando does not because he doesn’t think they work.

It’s possible that there is some other drama between WMH and the Woodcraft store that is causing that local woodcraft to not be receiving the tools. Maybe they’re bickering over sales margins, or shipping rates or who knows what. I have ordered a few jet and powermatic tools from my local woodcraft and haven’t had an issue with it. In my case the items where shipped to the store, then I arranged delivery from the store to my home.

Unfortunately in situations like this it’s hard to see the closed door drama and figure out who’s the “bad guy”, but if your woodcraft store cannot deliver the tool you wanted in a months time. I’d get that tool somewhere else or get another tool of a different brand (like a delta drum sander as an example) from woodcraft.

I think I like that guy, lol:)
.
There’s always the Delta, Shopfox, or Grizzly (I don’t like Grizzly, but many do). Powermatic is a home mortgage.
.
I really hope you get this sorted out.

Been there, done that. It took me 5 months to get a Powermatic air cleaner delivered. http://lumberjocks.com/topics/16816

My dealer called around to other dealers trying to get 1 for me while all this went on. One guy said he was just about to call my guy for the same thing. It’s most likely NOT where you bought it, but the manufacturer.

If you have a long wait, make sure your warranty starts at delivery, not purchase.

Really good point, Hairy. I would not have thought of that.

Yeah, I really want to stay in the price range of the Jet, and I’m not crazy about the Grizzlys based on the reviews I’ve read. I also like the open ended design of the Jet. I’ll have to do some more investigating about my local Woodcraft to see if I can determine if its THEIR problem and not Jet’s.

one can only hope that wmh’s trading on the past value of their jet and powermatic brands has caught up with them and they are experiencing problems that will lead to their demise. ITMT, how about this sander:

http://www.grizzly.com/products/10-Drum-Sander/G0716

grizzly is the only company i know of whose owner frequents WW forums ( i’ve seen him posting on sawmillcreek) and actually interceeds with problems. never saw anyone from wmh do that.
