Mulching with saw dust will not only help with keeping weeds from popping up but it also helps keep the dirt from evaporating all of it’s water.

Mulching is a must. Just don’t use any sawdust from black walnut – it will kill your tomato plant. My first garden had one corner near a black walnut and my tomatoes all wilted in that area.

...and it will deplete nitrogen in the soil. Just add a touch of fertilizer.
