I have the PC 893 combo set and I love the plunge base. I have mounted the fixed base to a couple of sheets of MDF to make my first ghetto router table. The problems come when I am in the fixed base and am trying to change heights. The bit seems to move at a diagonal rather than straight up and down and when I try to change the height , the adjustment seems to bind badly. I first thought it was dust getting into the area, so I rigged a leafblower to blow air across underneath the table and try to keep the gears from jamming. No apparent dust, but still seems to want to bind. The only thing I can think of is that I may not have the adjustment set tight enough that holds the motor into the fixed base?
Any ideas? This is making me want to just go get a new big router for a true table, but my tool budget is blown until next spring.
