I am looking for a vintage jointer, 8 inches size would be good. The problem is I don’t know where to look for one. I only know ebay and craigslist and the prices on there seem a bit high even for old cast iron beasts. Anyone have ideas where i could look.

How vintage?

There are some bargains out there on big old jointers but they
will tend to be from defunct brands. If you have the space
to house one and the will to move them, I’ve seen huge Oliver
machines sold for under $1000. Most buyers aren’t up to
dealing with such heavy iron.

A lot of schools do away with heavy vintage machinery you can try looking into those auctions.

Myself, If time wasn’t of the essence, I would keep searching Craigslist unless you are not near a large enough city to get a lot of CL traffic. There are even saved searches you can input into your smart phone on CL apps and It will notify you when your search “jointer” has found a match. I found a nice used 1980’s I think…6” Grizzly for $175. If I had more space I would go for an 8” model down the road though.

OH! And another way to do it is sites like “www.searchtempest.com”
Its a way to search Craigslist from any location and you can imput how many miles away it will search for a specific item. ...Say Jointer-Minneapolis-500 miles ... I used it looking for a drum sander.

also search for:

joiner, joyner, planer, planner, jointer-planer, joiner-planer,
wood cutting machine, and so forth. You may be
surprised at some of the bargains that come up.
