Somewhere in my blogs/projects there is a picture of Gizmo. I just can’t remember where it is. Anyway, yesterday he had .. “something” (we don’t know what) and we had to put him down.

At 8:00 am he was eating and a half hour later it was like he was paralyzed, but not. We paid for an x-ray – he hadn’t broken anything but all of his insides were all sitting on one side of his body. Weird and sad.

Anyway,
thought I’d share this, especially since rtb got to meet him at the picnic.

Debbie,

You have my deepest sympathies. These guys come into our lives and really don’t ask anything more than to be loved and bring us a mountain of joy and memories. It hurts when we must inevitably say good-bye to them but the sadness that this brings pales in comparison with the love and joy they add to our lives while they are with us.

Having recently gone through a similar experience with our cat I feel your loss. It’s remarkable how these critters make themselves part of the family.

yah.. this guy didn’t like to be pet or picked up. He didn’t mind being pet with your foot—he’d sit there for 1/2 hour, but run your hand on him and it was maximum of 30 seconds. He had developed the habit of going to every door in the house to be let out or let in and then just go to the next door to go out/in right after…
Yes, he was a character.

Rick said “he’s just a cat”. My response, “No. He’s Gizmo!”

Anyway, he’s gone now and thanks guys.

I’m truly sorry to hear this news. It’s devestating. Our Family consist of 2 Golden Retrievers, 1 Golden/Great Peranesse mix, 2 cats, 2 birds, 1 Tenn. Walking horse, 1 miniture horse and a small donkey. We lost a golden 3 weeks ago as most saw in a blog. I just can’t imagine what you feel.

To have a family member as Gizmo to become ill so quick. You have my deepest sympathy Ms.Debbie.

Debbie,

I am very sorry to hear about your cat. I have lost two in the last few years. One was sudden like yours and that was the hardest. Sending you my best wishes.

I’m sorry Debbie, it’s terrible when they have to go. My wife and have quite a few golden retrievers here, and it’s always a bad day when we lose one.

... Sending you my sympathy…

thanks everyone.

haha yes you do, John. lol
I momentarily thought about getting a kitten—I love long-haired cats and if we are going to have one cat anyway (a short-haired) might as well get one I’d fall in love with.
And then I gave my head a shake and said, “ah, have you forgotten already what you just went through???!!!!!”

There’s a reason we were without animals around here for years….
but then…... a cute little kitten ….. doh

Hi Miss Debbie,
First of all I am so sorry about Gizmo – Unfortunately I deal with pet loss every day and for lack of a better description well …. It just plain sucks! The syptoms you described sound like poor Gizmo thru a blood clot (often called a saddle thrombus in veterinary medicine) to his back legs If that was the case x-rays would be normal. The positioning of the insides on the x-ray film can often be to one side and usually doesn’t mean anything unless the kid was vomiting for more than 3-4 times per day over the last 2-3 days. I’m sorry you had to make that decision but if this is what happened to little Gizmo then you made a painful but correct decision. So… feel free if you have any questions let me know Debbie – I am so sorry for your loss.

Hi Doc.

the saddle thingy is what the vet thought at first but the symptoms weren’t quite matching I guess.

Anyway.. thank you for confirming that it was the right decision.
That helps!

Thanks again to everyone

I’m sorry for your loss, Debbie.

There are way too many cats in the world that need someone to love them. I vote for a new kitten to help you work through your grief. :-)

lol
I think I’ll be ok without a sweet little, precious, kitten sleeping on my chest at night, walking between my feet in the kitchen, looking at me with those big trusting eyes, playing with pieces of lint….......

Sorry to hear about your cat. We have one we rescued from the pound about 14 years ago and he really hasn’t started slowing down yet. My son is going to be devasted when he does pass.

I agree with Charlie. Rescue another cat to love and be loved by.

those are great photos (love that first one). Thanks for the smiles!!

I think that a “rescue” will be the only way a kitten comes home with me. Now, don’t go driving my house and dropping off a cute little long-haired black and white kitten!!

Debbie, you already know how I feel.
, but please consider there are so many unfortunte cats that will never be able to return anyones love. Its really the best thing that you can do both for a cat, or 2, and to help the void that you feel. Gismo will always be there but a new cat will always be here.

My condolences Debbie…It’s so hard to loose a friend. I have been there several times…it’s one of the hardest things in life to deal with. Animal lovers are all the same…we tend to humanize our pets…I know i do!

My two Kitty’s Edison and Sam, and my golden Sadie all said a little prayer for Gizmo…..

thanks everyone.

My son-in-law got a surprise gift for my daughter (owner of the cat) ... a coffee mug that looks black until you put hot water in it and then it turns white with a collage of pictures around it and yes, he chose a picture of Gizmo. So now everytime she misses him she has a cup of tea or something and he comes back to life for her in the mug :)
So very special.

(I think Kodak offered the item).
