Topic tags/keywords: finishing

Hey Folks,

We had a small log cabin delivered to our property as a seasonal rental. The interior walls are 1×6 T&G white pine, including the bath room.
I feel the need to treat the walls of the bath to protect it from the moisture, but am not sure of the best way to do that. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

what kind of look are you goign for? that might help people answer. do you want to keep the color as clear as possible? Do you care about how glossy? is cost a major factor? I’m no expert on finishing (quite the opposite actually) but I think the more you can tell about your objective, the more help you might get.

Poly seems like a pretty tough protective finish since it will be a rental, but some people feel it looks plasticy, especially when applied thick. Also, I think it can yellow. Not sure if those factors worry you.

Oil repels water so an oil based stain would be the norm here. Check with the Minwax website and I think you’ll find your answer.
