Are the new Irwin saw blades made in Italy, made by Freud?
Their design looks very much like Freud’s design.

Not made by Freud that I know, but I suppose the could be. CMT, Freud, and some of the Infinity blades are made in Italy, so I know they have at least one good blade manufacturer there.

They do look to be a quality blade….. big improvement over their Marathon, Sprint, and Classic series of junk blades. They haven’t offered a good blade since they discontinued their “Woodworking” series that was made in Germany by Leitz.

I was actually in (b)lowes earlier looking to see if they had any of the CMT dado sets. They did and I got it for 32$. The Irwin Marples blade is different than the Freud, Scotts pic above show the differences. It actually doesn’t look all that great. The went a little skimpy on the carbide – even more so than the diablo. It’s also a few bucks more than the diablo.
However, I will admit it, I have a problem. I need to go to saw blades anonymous. I bought the 50 tooth. I won’t be able to give it a spin until after work tomorrow since I actually had to go into the office and have a very lengthy commute.

I know the Irwin Dado sets at Lowes look almost exactly like the CMT sets they have on clearance. The only difference is the Irwin sets have fewer chippers included in the set. The missing chippers have been replaced by large 1/8” washers that Irwin calls “spacers”. Oh, one other thing the remaining chippers have a nice polished finish, instead of that black oxide on the CMT set chippers.

Yup, the CMT one. I like my Freud set, but for 32$, I couldn’t let it sit there! Some people are getting them for under 20$. Lowes is getting rid of them for the new Irwin Marples dado set. They had one of those there as well for 100$. The outside blades look ok, but the chipper blades look really cheap.

It was marked at 70$, but it scanned at 32 on the price checker

Fred, the bottoms of the chippers on the marples were polished, but toward the cutter, it is really rough

Here is what I mean:

Edit:
Knotscott, also if interest, the marples 50 tooth blade I picked up actually says “Woodworking series” on the bottom.

How could that work?

Bert, yes you do. 32$ is cheaper than a sharpening :)If not I’m sure these would sell on craigslist for 70$. CMT still makes them and sells them for over 100$, Lowes is just clearing them out. I’m not even going to use mine (save for a test cut to make sure it works) until my Freud set has to go off to the sharpener.

the irwin blades look more like the dewalt/delta blades. not so much resembling the freud.
