Topic tags/keywords: question I would like to make my son-in-law a guitar. He has his own band in Austin TX. As I have never done this before, I wanted to start with a kit like the ones the Rockler has just put out. Does any body have any opinions with any of these kits? -- Thor and Odin are still the greatest of Gods. |

If you were to purchase a neck, it’s pretty easy to fashion the body, and purchase the electronics, which gives you a custom one of a kind guitar and potentially better electronics. If you prefer you can even buy body cut out online. If that notion is out of the question, I’d look into the Grizzly kits ....owner Shiraz Balolia is an accomplished luthier, and his kits get good marks. I know nothing about the Rockler kits. Good luck, and please keep us posted on your progress! It’s a great project. -- Happiness is like wetting your pants...everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.... |

This is new to Rockler. Grizzly has been in it for years, and the founder/owner is a luthier himself. I would look there. -- Ron Wilson - maker of fine firewood! |

I haven’t done one myself (yet), but there are several companies that make guitar kits. The one I’ve heard the most/best about, for many years, is LMI (Luthiers Mercantile International). Here’s a link to their electric guitar kit page: LMI Electric Guitar Kits -- Jim Maher, Illinois |
