Hi all,

Does anyone know of a supplier for live edge wood or slabs in the Long Island, NY area?

I scoured ebay looking for hours and can’t seem to find what I am looking for. Also, the shipping cost is almost as much as the wood itself. I am only looking for a few pieces. If I can, I would like to go and hand pick my wood.

I am specifically looking for walnut, cherry and maple all 8-12 wide and 4/4-5/4 thick. I don’t want to go much thicker since the finished pieces will be about 3/4-4/4 thick.

Buying online would be ok too if somebody has a good recommendation.

Thanks for all your help!

Ken

Check on woodfinder.com . Enter your zip code, check the appropriate boxes, e.g. “retail or retail/wholesale, then click on the vertical search bar on the right side of the page. HTH

Thanks Art.

However, when I search there, I only find places which are 100 miles away.
Any other suggestions?

Ken

Ken, Talk to some local arborists or tree service guys (best bet). If you like to gamble, find some lumber in western Connecticut when you go to Foxwoods and bring it back on the ferry. -Jack

Ken look up Boards in Beams in Fairfield N.J. They sell live edge slabs and you can pick em.

I hope to be sawing some maple logs next week. If you have a pickup truck and would like to take a drive to northern VT in mud season I may be able to fix you up with some rough and green hot off the saw. I also think I could come up with a cherry log or two. You would of course need to dry it but the price will be rite. You would need to take more than a few pieces to make it worth the drive but if you timing was rite you could have it sawed just the way you want it while you watch. I have some 200 year old maple logs that will be full of tap holes and sap stain and also have some smaller (under 10”) maple that should be nearly defect free.

In case anyone else is in the area and has the same question and stumbles onto this thread, there is a place in Ridgefield, CT, about a 1-1.5 hours from Garden City:

Board Silly Custom Sawmill
318 Ethan Allen Highway
Ridgefield, CT 06877
(203) 438-3631

Disclaimer: I haven’t been there yet.

Is your friend still at 257 Broadway? I really need to find a live edge slab for a project. I google mapped and it showed the address East of 110. Does the place have a name?

Great, thanks! I can’t believe they are literally around the corner from me. I’ve been searching for a place like this for over a year.
