Topic tags/keywords: maple turning blanks woodturning

I had a big maple limb break out of a tree in my front yard. I’ve cut it up into bowl and rolling pin blanks. It’s reaction wood, so if it’s sawed into lumber it will make some beautiful slabs that resemble potato chips… Bowls and rolling pins won’t twist enough as they dry to mess up. Anyone close enough to Kingsport, Tennessee who would like some of these blanks, just come on over and load up your trailer. The tree is in decline and limbs are falling often, so sometime soon I’m going to have to remove it and plant one to replace it. All the big limbs will be cut into bowl blanks and I’ll never be able to turn all the wood. It’s too nice to burn, so come get it! I’m going to keep the ends wet till I either use it, or give it away.

I’ll be right over…

Can you give me some quick directions?

I am in Alta Loma, California… OK?

Joe, I’ll be glad to bring you some bowl blanks. I will be visiting your area either this month or sometime next month. We’ve decided to make the trip, but haven’t worked out any other details. How far are you from Sam Maloof’s house? I’m going to fly out sometime this month to take the tour and to spend as much time as possible looking at the furniture and home he built. I’ll be glad to pack a couple of blanks in my luggage for you. Also what else is in the area to visit? If I’m taking the time and trouble to make the trip, I’d like to see as much as possible.

I’d love some, but even Nashville is a bit too far to drive. It’s nice of you to offer it up to the lumberjocks community, though.
