Topic tags/keywords: question bandsaw

A local auction has a Delta 14” Platinum Edition bandsaw model 28-254. I have been unable to locate any information about that specific model.

Does anyone here know anything about it?

Wouldn’t want to put out good money for a lemon.

Thanks for the reply Heisbert. I checked, but no luck there either.

BTW your first reply (Heisbert) is from a shill.

As for your question, I have a Delta Platinum Edition shaper and a Delta Grand Edition of the same bandsaw you are looking at. The main thing to key on is the actual model number of the machine as opposed to the “edition”. The latter is just Delta’s way of trying to jazz their stuff up a bit. It usually means a fancy paint job and maybe a couple of accessories but the saw is otherwise the same saw that they normally sell.

Delta’s Platinum editions are probably 5+ years old now. Older is better as Delta has been going down hill for a while now (bought and sold a few too many times). A bandsaw from the platimun line should not be a lemon.

This saw used to be the premier 14” saw and sold for a lot more than Ridgid, Jet and others.

Check the HP on the motor. It should be 1.5 or so and drawing about 10 or more amps on 120V. Cheaper bandsaws are usually underpowered.

If it appears well looked after you might be able to get a good saw at a good price.

I had my times messed up and wasn’t able to inspect the saw.

I bit the bullet and bought a Rikon during Woodcraft’s 10% off sale.

Have your say...
