I would add up the board footage for each type and see if it still looks good.

That’s an expensive place to live. He may need money to pay his mortgage. :-)

My quick math puts the wood between $2.90 and $3.00 a board foot. If it’s already milled, then even with the cracked ends, it looks like a pretty good price over all. But I wouldn’t decide on my math. Do as Gary says and get a good board foot total. I came up with 263.5 but that’s a pretty gross number. It’s definitely worth looking into in my mind.

Yea I quick mathed it too , but what about dry wood that has been laying around for years? sounds like this has
I am cluless on wood age and moisture content. does it get better aging, or worse?
In other words, does wood have a shelf life?

Some gets better, some worse. You’d have to look at it and feel it. You’ll know if it feels too dry. The cracking may have been from the original cutting and drying. There’s some pretty good size boards there. Another question to ask is how much is oak going for in your neck of the woods? $3.00 a foot may be close to retail and most of the wood is oak. Look closer, but take your time. $750 is a lot of money.

I would worry about having to remill it to get rid of any defects from being stored, and there is a lot of oak that you can pick up faily cheap, and the Maple, what kind it can relly vary in price between just plain soft and figured?
It could be a real craps shoot!

OK , now that I have thought about it Red Oak is ok to me, and the majority is that so I think Ill pass.
Red Oak is about $5 BF here.
If it is too dry will it also be warped?
Just wondering.
Thanks
