Topic tags/keywords: jig question drill press

In all the posts on this site about drill press tables, I can’t remember seeing one that addresses height adjustment issues for the medium and smaller presses that have no vertical rack and pinion. I’ve tried to live by adjusting the table height by lifting and dropping, and it’s getting old. I’m interested in ideas to solve this problem with minimal expense and maximum convenience.

I happen to have a Delta radial drill press on a stand. The table clamps to the 30” post. when you put a strong woodworking table on it, the table assembly gets very heavy.

What about a small scissor lift like the one I use on my router.
How much travel do you need?

The total usable travel is near 20”. I had a car jack under it for a while, but it kept binding up and I couldn’t figure a way around it.

Dan I just read your other post where you talk about buying a Saw Stop, why don’t replace your drill press?
I bought most of my tool either used or Rigid or Harbor Freight or used and Harbor Freight.
I bought a one year HF old 12 speed floor drill press for $100.00.
It works like champ

Bert, I hope I didn’t post that I was going to buy a SawStop! On principle I won’t even consider it. Did you mean Super Shop?

However, I may look into a floor model dp that has the rack and piinion. Thanks.

I have been working on my drill press table lift and thought you might want to view this youtube of my drill press.
I haven’t finished the base cabinet yet, but plan to add drawers for storage.
