I took an old bench mount Vicmarc VL100 lathe and built a cabinet to house a 1 hp 3 phase motor, inverter, and control panel. The whole thing is mounted on a universal Rikon lathe stand that had to be shortened by 5 inches. I spent more than the cost of a Jet midi, but this is much more robust, powerful, and stable.
