Topic tags/keywords: question whirlygig

Would anyone have suggestions on making a whirlygig from wood, have tried a Flamingo, approx 2 feet tall, and cannot get any propellers to spin well. Made hubs from plywood, have pieces of dowel attached to hubs, which are connected to blades cut from 3/4 basswood. Works ok with the fan blowing on it, not so well outside.
Primarily interested what folks use for/as the ‘axle’ assembly. Thanks
