Okay – I am technology challenged. When reading blogs some require a ‘Profile’ to publish your comments. ie. google account, live journel, wordpress, typepad, AIM, OpenID. What are these choices? How do I figure out the profile I should select?

They want to be able to keep posting to people who have been ID’ed by some mechanism. Which one you use only depends on what you have accounts on that you will tie your identity to what you post. Most times I use my gmail account or facebook account. It goes and redirects your login to one of those sites to verify your identity. Part of it is to keep people from posting spam.

What they really want to do is make it where you can’t just come in and post things that they can’t clear off when someone behaves badly. Kind of like here on Lumberjocks where we have a few users that have “alter egos” that come in and cause trouble so they can troll and offend but they don’t want to use their real identity so they can try to avoid being permanently banned for their behavior. They have a “throw away” persona that if it gets deleted, they can pull out another one. Some have accounts that they have on standby for a long time before they start using them so they don’t attract attention.

Well, I guess everyone should have a hobby. Personally, I would rather be making something than trolling.
