I’ve been having alot of trouble and wasting alot of time online trying to source live edge slabs for a project. I basically need 6 slabs in good Spalted Maple, 8/4” in widths from 12” to 20” and lengths of 62-76” long. I’ve gone through about 20-25 slab guys and just cant seem to locate it.

This shouldn’t be a problem for any other specie except for for this one! Help!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Try fellow Lumberjock Greg, http://lumberjocks.com/OregonBurls ... Kinda far, but he has some amazing wood and might be able to help you out.

Nomad62 is another guy on LJs that is big in spalted maple slabs. He’s in Oregon also unfortunately for you. His maple is assumedly Western Big Leaf Maple.

I’d consider veneering over solid wood a-la Tage Frid. Just a thought.

James Krenov wrote a chapter about a veneered spalted maple
silver chest in one of his books. He bitches about veneering
and the maple’s weaknesses but the piece is worth the hassle.

Have your say...
