Topic tags/keywords: waterproof finishing bathroom question

help! I just bought a beautiful cabinet for a powder bathroom that i am going to drop a sink into. It has a beautifully painted top. I planned on replacing the top with granite/marble but i was wondering if there is a finish that could be used instead so i could still see this beautiful top and that would be waterproofed bathroom appropriate. I cant use glass because it has a decoritive routered edge that the water could get to. I was told that the paint probably had a resin added to it? dont know for sure, but its hard and thick and antiqued looking with a low shine. Anyone have a suggestion?

Pourable clear epoxy? It is what they use on some bar tops. It should be extremely durable. I am not sure on the clarity.

You can apply poly over it. I do not know how much water, but the poly on my coffee table has held up for over two years now and has glasses sitting on it almost all day. The glasses seem to leave a good amount of water and does not affect it at all.

I dunno…I’ve left a couple of “finishers” in there that peeled the paint off the walls. LOL! Sorry…had to do it!

The bartop mix should suit your needs. You can get it at the paint areas of your big box stores. Do a test on an unseen area first though.

Behr Super spar is my main-stay for bathroom finishes. I have even done solid wood & plywood countertops for baths with it- no problems.
