I got a lot of help on what wood to use in the wood forum, but I’m here posting for opinions on what a decent head vise at around US$100 would be.

I would look at a quick release vise, I know Rockler has some (7” or 9” models) that are in that price range.

or look at craiglist, there are always good quality vises at 50-70 around here (your location could be different) – used, but can be cleaned up

Edit: I’m actually favoring Leevalley (in general) so here is a link to a quick release vise in your price range:
http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=54873&cat=1,41659,41661&ap=1

I’ve always had great customer service there, and their products are mostly spot on in terms of quality
