I’m now at the point in setting up my ‘shop where I need to deal with dust collection. I bought a Pro-Point 2HP dust collector last year at Princess Auto and the thing works really good. I think the impeller on it is 12”. My dilemma is: That won’t be able to service the whole ‘shop. The way the geography of everything is, my miter saw and sander(Soon to be sanders) will not be easily serviced by the main dust collector.

The way I work, the miter saw and sanders are mostly intermittent tools which is why I want a seperate dust collector for them so I do not have to keep switching the main one on and off. I’ll get one of those auto-switches at Lee Valley, Rockler or Grizzly. The dust collector I have in mind can be found here:

The runs from this dust collector will be no more than 2’ in length and the three tools I mentioned earlier are all on the same bench.
This will mean four connections: Ridgid Edge Sander, Belt/Disk sander, Miter Saw dust port and miter saw dust hood.
In regards to the terrible bag on this dust collector: It’s going to be inside the cabinet along with the separator.

What do you think of this plan and do you have any experiences with this product?

That one is better than the red one they sell. The red one is a universal motor (with brushes).
Are you locating or ducting this outside?
It would be best to do that, but you will loose a lot of conditioned air unless you run it through a heat exchanger.

I cannot vent outside as houses in my neighborhood are 5’ apart.

I already have a large 2HP dust collector and I have very minimal room. My shop is only 20’x20’. I may consider getting the Harbor Freight dust collector just to take the blower off of it and use it as a booster.
