I just agreed to buy TedW’s mortiser, so I’ll be making a trip sometime from Niles, MI to Chicago. Here’s the list of tools I’ve been looking for, and I thought I might have better luck in the big city than in South Bend.

Portable thickness planer. (Want something I won’t want to replace in a few years)
Dovetail jig
Biscuit joiner
Belt sander
Straight-edge clamps

The big one is the planer, as it’s the one that’s most difficult (or rather expensive) to ship. Has anyone along my way been thinking of getting rid of any of these tools?

You might want to start checking CL and see if there’s anything on there that you could grab along the way. There are often links to items on the Chicago CL on another site I visit.

There is a guy in the same general area with a DW735. I sent him an email but haven’t heard back yet.
