Topic tags/keywords: oak modern question dining table

I am planning on building a dining table with a glass inset. The glass is about 30” by 59” and 5/8” thick.
I am planning on building a frame to hold the glass (with a reveal cut with a dado) from solid red oak, with the dado being 5/8” deep for a flush finish, and 1” wide to hold the weight.
Now the question I have is: I am planning to use 1” thick wood.
Is it ok? Will it hold?

3/8 is pretty thin. You might want to add some support around the bottom in the form of an applied strip of wood. You might also want to bevel the edge of the glass. That way you can leave it proud of the top.

Well, I got the glass from Ikea…. un-bevelled.. So I have to plan around that….
Putting like a 1” thick 2 ” wide strip should do it u think?
Or maybe I start the apron there that supports the frame and holds the legs?
The oak is 4” wide for the frame (including width for the reveal)...
