Topic tags/keywords: porter-cable dovetail jig deal resource

It appears that Woodcraft is running a promo on the Porter-Cable 690 router where if you buy the router, you get a PC dovetail jig for free.

I would jump on this in a second, but I already have a PC dovetail jig and really don’t need another one.

The deal is here.

Last year, I got the very last Rikon 6” jointer for $149 (really!) because a fellow LJ posted it and I managed to see it. Hopefully some of you will benefit.

I don’t know what Woodcraft is meaning by “free” dovetail jig—a PC 690 router should retail somewhere around $100 – $120. Woodcraft wants $160? Hmmm. I wouldn’t call that a deal.

I agree Andy, the last PC690 I bought, last year I think, I paid around $90 for it and also got a $20 rebate on top of that.

The PC dovetail jig alone cost me about $150 at a woodworking show. It’s a great jig, much better than the Rockler. That’s why I thought it was a deal.

It’s all the same in the end however I think Woodcraft could have done a little better job of marketing this offer. Buy the dovetail jig, get a free router or buy both for $159 sounds better to me than over pay for a commodity router and get a dovetail jig for free. When I first clicked on your link and saw this offer the first thing that came to mind was, are they nuts, $159 for 690!

There is also a coupon code on the woodcraft site for another 10 bucks off (code #62012), that brings it in around $170 with ($20) shipping and tax. So its really about $50 for the jig if you consider the router at $100, subtract the shipping and tax that you would pay anyway and a PC jig has to be better than one of those Harbor freight jigs for $32. I don’t think that’s a bad deal if you need both a router and dovetail jig.
