Topic tags/keywords: question bubinga

i’ve got a couple a small piece of 1/2” thick bubinga, and was interested in opinions of another wood to mix it with, and a finish that you would use.

The project in mind is a small box for my wife (about 4” w x 6”L). I’m thinking of using the bubinga as an accent wood (however, more then just splines for example).

What do you think?
Thanks for the feedback.

Hey Glenn,
Maybe maple

you could make a maple box with strips of bubinga simular to the way I used maple on this box.

or you could use it to make a handle

Good luck I don’t know about finishing bubinga but I would imagine that tung oil would look good.

anything darker or lighter that constrasts the bubinga and makes it stand out would look good. Everything i’ve ever made with bubinga i’ve finished with a custom tung oil blend i mix myself. it finishes great, some of the smoothest and according to my daughter the “touchiest” wood i’ve ever worked with.
