Topic tags/keywords: burnisher scraper sharpening

I was wondering if anyone used a ceramic burnisher (the kind used for knifes) for things like burnishing scrapers, etc.

I never have.

But thinking “out loud”, I wonder if they would be strong enough? It was my impression the the ceramic material is very brittle. A regular scraper burnisher is used with some downward force over the edge of the scraper. I don’t know if the ceramic piece could withstand the pressure.

Just my $.02.

I have used a tungsten carbide burnisher. Same idea different substrate.
Virtually anything material finer and harder than what you are burnishing works.

The ceramic used in knifes and I guess burnishers is not like your average ceramic pottery. It is as hard or harder than steele and can hold an edge longer in knifes.

And no virginia, it will not chip.
