I want to make a couple of knife blocks… the solid wood kind, rather than the type filled with skewers or other material. I’ve looked around a lot and I just find myself getting perplexed.

Can anybody show me some plans? The few I found were rather vague.

I have a couple of plans somewhere for the old school counter top type. I’ll try to find them… Also, I recently saw an updated version that used rare earth magnets in the slots; i found that interesting.

Hi Lis. I have never got a “plan”- just drew up what I needed. You need to layout what knives you want it to hold and a sharpener and scissors, maybe and then plan the sizes of the openings and spacings. Then make a plan with the segments and where to cut the slots with a dado and glue it back together. I do all the slots with a router and make them blind so they don’t come through the bottom then you have a solid bottom when you glue it all back together. I usually do not save any of my layouts, but I’ll look in my file for one…........................Jim
