I would like to request a new preference/option – the ability to hide ‘non-shop talk’ topics from appearing in the forum summary page.

For example, 7 of the 20 headers on the first page are non-shop topics as I type this. It bothers me that I have to keep bringing up new pages to find woodworking-related posts. Since the non-shop titles are already masked, it frustrates me to see a 1/3rd of the entries are meaningless.

It could be a user-selected option, so those that find value in that forum can keep track of updates, and others can choose to stay focused on the woodworking topics. Even if it had to be a universal setting, those that want to engage in Non-shop talk can enter that forum category, as opposed to those who don’t having to sort through 10 other forum categories to catch up.

I think this would allow people to continue to express thier opinions in the NST forum, while preserving the woodworking-centric nature others of us are looking for here.

Thanks for your consideration – love the site.

It would be nice. I prefer to stay away from those posts because I really don’t want to see the political posts, I prefer to like people and if I knew their political thoughtlessness I would certainly have a hard time with some.

I agree. The reason I started coming around was woodworking.

It doesn’t bother me much, since I usually go directly to the forums anyway, but it would make sense to have that option.

Doesn’t bother me at all. I just Click on Number2 or 3 or 4 on the bottom and Zip right through until I see something I’m interested in, IF I’m just browsing around.

I just checked now and there was 1 on the first page and 2 on the second page. (Summary Page)

What I don’t understand is if I click “Show all Forums” go through Page One then click on Number 2 it goes back to Page 2 of the Forum Summary Page (i.e.It Popped me out of “Show all Forums” page automatically)

Also as TedW said I usually hit “Show all Forums” as soon as I get on there and pick the one I want. That’s how I saw your Post.

By the way, some of the “Non-Shop Talk Forums” are Very Interesting and have Nothing to do with Politics Or Religion. Unfortunately it’s usually a Losing Battle to Post a GOOD Topic in there. For obvious reasons, or as follows …..

Personally, I think the use of that term is enough to turn anybody off, it’s also very Negative and you MUST Go There to find out what it’s about. Not many want to do that. I have yet to hear a Valid Reason as to why they feel they MUST HIDE The Topic.

I respect your right to enjoy the NST forum. I’m asking for a feature that would allow you to continue enjoying it, and me to continue enjoying the site, sans that content.

There were and are titles that I feel are inappropriate for a public woodworking community forum, and I am happy to see them masked, especially on the summary page. I beleive the reason they got masked in the first place was the inflammatory nature of several posts.

Just like there is a button on the ‘pulse’ page to hide off topic posts, I would like the same functionality on the forum page.

Thanks for your consideration,

Chris:

Thank you for your well worded and Respectul Reply. I guess I talk too much …LOL… I wasn’t Diisagreeing with your Request, it would probably be well accepeted by some of the Members.

I also don’t use the Pulse Page other than for Posts that I am “Watching”.

We have different ways of Navigating this Site, that’s about what it comes down to.

Respectfully: Rick
