I found this quite an interesting video. I applaud Bob Taylor for his efforts to harvest ebony in a more ecologically sound manner. I think that we’ll still see a lot of different “exotic” woods become unavailable in the next 50 years though; some of the hard wood trees have taken over 100 years to grow, our rate of harvesting far exceeds the rate by which the forests can renew themselves.

This has been on all the guitar building forums and I think it would be good to bring more product to market. That being said, there has been a lot of ebony that has been dyed for several years, so I don’t think it will impact the prices we see at all, nor will it become available at more locations, in my opinion. But I do say good on him for trying to be responsible.
