Do you have or know of anyone who has a Delta JT160 6” Variable Speed Bench Jointer? I am looking at one of these as it may just serve my purpose. But I dunno if this may be an item of, you get what you pay for, type of deal. I’d rather spend another $100 if there was another out there with a huge benefit over this one. I was looking at the low end Grizzly taht comes on the stand.

Thanks in advance!

Jerry,

Never used the one you are looking at, but did find some reviews here

I have a Bridgewood 6”. Very similar to the Grizzly. Works well for me.

I have one, and if you’re looking for precision, then you’d be better off looking elsewhere. If you’re looking to get in the neighborhood, this will do as well as any.

Thanks guys. I’ll keep looking a bit more at the Grizzly and then compare some. This tool may complete my shop for sometime until I become more skilled.

Hello Jerry

You might take a look at craigslist.org. I bought a 20 dollar craftsman several years ago and it has serve me well.

Jerry check this out.
It’s from Amazon.com, mostly negative comments about this tool. Joe

Thanks Joero and others. I have narrowed my search for a jinter to the following.
Laguna A175009
SM-150 6” x 56” Super Long Bed Jointer with Spiral Knife Cutterhead
“G1182ZHW 6” x 47 Super Jointer w/ Handwheels - Z Series
“G0452 6 Jointer
“G0604X 6 Parallelogram Jointer and “G0452Z 6” X 46 Jointer w/ Spiral Cutterhead .

The last two are a little more than I can afford unless I saw for a couple of months. I like the Laguna from what I have read and I also like these 1.5 hp Grizzly’s. I have some time before I have to decide. If this guy buys the TV’s and hine theater system I’ll go with the latter of the two Grizzly’s and make a choice.

I have the Grizzly G0452 6” Jointer and it does everything I’ve asked of it. The mobile base is wonderful if you have a small shop. I’m happy with the joiner BUT a word to the wise get the widest you can afford, I wish I had gotten a wider one.

those smaller ones aren’t as accurate. if you think of it like a hand plane it makes a lot of sense. you would think of this as a smoothing plane. it has a smaller bed so in a way it rides over the curves in the wood. a larger one is more like a jointer plane and since it has a larger bed it doesn’t follow those curves and produces a flat surface. it is alright for smaller stock but in the bigger stock it wouldn’t work very well. hope this helps.
