Here’s a picture of Venus transiting the Sun. We used an old Newtonian telescope to project an image onto a piece of cardboard lined with sheets of printer paper. Venus is the black dot and the other black smudges are sun spots.

(By the way, don’t ever use a telescope to look directly at the Sun.)

-- More tools, fewer machines.
