Topic tags/keywords: drill press mortiser help

I have an opportunity to get a Jet Drill Press Model # JSL-14DP. FREE

I know beggars shouldn’t be choosers, and I do have to drive 480 miles to get it,
but I need to know if my Delta Mortise Attachment will fit. It’s a matter of the
diameter of the piece above the chuck. (Sorry, don’t know what it’s called.)

Kinda like putting the horse before the cart, but I was able to pick the mortiser
up for $15 at an auction … Couldn’t resist … It was New-Old Stock!

Does anyone have one of these that can give me the diameter of that “thingy” ... <grin>

Thanks folks!

I found this information about your Mortise Attachment:

From Delta: Fits most Delta and Sears models and any other drill presses with 66 mm (2-5/8”), 50.8 mm (2”), 48 mm (1-7/8”) or 38 mm (1-1/2”) dia. quills.

From Another Source: I have a Delta drill press with Delta mortise attachment. It comes with three collars for various model drill presses, but does not fit the Ridgid drill press. Ridgid’s mortise attachment looks identical, comes with four collars, and also fits the Delta drill presses. So it appears that they just added a suitable collar for the Ridgid drill press.

When I bought my attachment (not Delta), it didn’t fit my drill press (Sears). I took the attachment and the quill diameter to a machine shop and they made me an insert to mate them together.

Lew,

Lot’s of great info. I’ll open the attachment (haven’t even opened the box) and see if it has the different
collars. Otherwise I like the idea of the machine shop (we have a real good one right near).

It’s nice to now know that the “thingy” is called a “quill”. LOL

Thanks again, I’ll check it out!
