I for one am sick of seeing Stumpy Nubs post about some contest he had Over and Over and Over again.
I’ve been a member here for almost 4 years now and this is really getting out of hand in my opinion.
Promoting something is ok with me but this is rediculous.
Post it a few times but then quit.. This site is not a self serving advertisement for someone who doesn’t even post a real photo..
I think a formal (group) complaint “if necessary” should be made about this issue, or am I the only one who feels this way? Ha.. I already know the answer.

Maybe you should read the contest thread. You might be surprised to see that only a few of the 11,600+ post on it are from Stumpy. The contest keeps coming to the top, because the members of LumberJocks continue to post additional comments.

Just like I just sent this thread back to the top of the chart.

You have posted a similar comment on at least three different forum topics now. If we use your implied difinition, this is beginning to look like your own “self-promotion.”

I like stumpy, you do not have read the post. There is a lot I do not read. The reason it is on here so much is all the responses. Go stumpy! You have a lot of us that like your videos and responses.

Stumpy is a self serving advertiser that is VERY obvious… That is not what this site is about..
He can DELETE the post or if he can’t maybe “WE” can get it deleted.
It’s sickening and it needs to stop.

I don’t mind the Stumpy thread, I even read through some of it. I found it funny that they’re goal is to catch the handplane thread (everyone even had a chuckle about it there at one point). I also then noted that right after the post count analysis whatever post, someone (don’t remember, or care, who) had posted somewhere around 7-8 responses in 7-8 different posts… I laughed, and haven’t been back since, because I decided it wasn’t for me :-)

I don’t even see ads on this forum.
My ad detector is turned off.
You too can turn yours off.
It works!

But it does make me kind of curious. How do you see one of the stumpy ads anyway? Actually I’ll pass.

“I wish there was a button that could just hide threads that we don’t wish to see.”

There is. At the top of the Forums tab, click “Show All Forums” and you can browse by topic.

Stumpy is cool. There are quite a few forum posts that LJ’s seem to enjoy and they have many comments. As long as there aren’t 20 such post at a time, I don’t have a problem with it. I would like to maybe see a double column for posts that go over a couple hundred comments though, I like to see new stuff, not the same old every day.

Stumpy is a promoter, but he is a contributer too. His videos I have seen are good, try to avoid his posts is the easiest answer. Lots on here like them.

I agree. I just ignore it and anything else that comes up under “Stumpy” anymore. I read through a little of it once and it was clear what the plan was. I think it should be dumped from this site and those who perpetuate it should just go to Stumpy’s site.

Maybe forum threads just need to be moved to “Off Topic” after it gets away from the initial topic too much for too long?

Hmmmmm. By virtue of the fact that posting a completed project or refurbishment, everyone thereby advertises their, skill, taste and even direction of where certain components can be purchased.

So I guess it’s OK for everyone else to advertise, except a few out of favor. Well done democracy.

William, you are a naughty boy. How dare you advertise your name and address on your recently completed mail box sign. People may get offended if they know where you live.

Copied the following from the LumberJocks Terms of Service:

TERMS OF SERVICE SUMMARY

Welcome to our network of project based websites! These Rules and Regulations are covered, along with additional rules and regulations in the detailed Terms of Service below. This is to notify you that by using LumberJocks.com, GardenTenders.com and/or HomeRefurbers.com services and thereby agreeing to the Terms of Service, you agree to the following:
1.You will not use the service for chain letters, junk mail, spamming or any use of distribution lists to any person who has not given specific permission to be included in such a process.
2.You will not transmit through the Service any unlawful, harassing, libelous, abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, obscene or otherwise objectionable material of any kind or nature.
3.You agree not to use the service for illegal purposes.

I don’t see any of these rules that Stumpy has violated. However, this specific thread, with its title calling out a specific member, could by some measure be considered a violation of rule #2.

I am sure the determination of what is allowed or not allowed under the Terms Of Service is up to the Moderators. If I wanted to be a moderator of an online community, I would start my on site. Otherwise, just like any other community, if there are members whose actions bother me, I ignore the posts and move on. With over 40,000 members there is plenty of information to choose from without being hung up on a single post.
