Ever since I was a kid I’ve loved the smell of sawdust, wood and a lumber yard. So I was suprised when I picked up some 2x lumber from HD for a home repair project and I noticed a funny smell when I started cutting the boards. After a while you could notice the smell as soon as you entered the shop. It was warm and closed up. This is not treated wood and the smell is similar to amines. Something the way a football, basketball or bicycle tire smells when you let the air out. I have never smelled this on wood before. And because there were different widths they were in different stacks so I doubt something could have spilled on them. I have smelled this in certain paints and dyes. Is anyone aware of some new chemical treatment being used or maybe a fumigant? Again, this was not treated wood. The smell is not real strong but is noticable. Thanks. -- Ron, Kutztown, PA "The reward is in the journey." |
