Topic tags/keywords: question walnut chess wood quatersawn chess pieces

Hey Guys, I was just wondering, Is a 2×4 piece of Walnut, (Like a REAL 2×4 inches NOT 1 1/2×3 1/2) that is 9 feet and already machined at 3 sides but is rough at 1 edge, Quatersawn, and is nice and dark for the black blocks and pieces of a chess board. Is it worth it at $26 Canadian dollars?
Any Comments, Suggestions and whether I should buy it or not is Appreciated!

Thats only 1/2 a board foot.
Making this CD$52.00 per board foot. Sounds danged expensive to me.
Such chunks of wood are often found in the fall off bin at the Rocklers for +/- $5

you did mean 9 ft right? If it’s 9” it’s way over priced.
2×4x108=864/144=6bf @ $8.oo(US) = $48.00 if my math is correct. Keeping in mind you are saying it’s full cut dim’s I’d grab it.(if it’s 9 ft.)

I don’t know what a Canadian $ is worth but yeah, I’d spend $26 for 6bf of QS walnut with no sap wood.

It’s 9 feet, not 9 inches

Well then, $26 for 6bf seems a bit more reasonable.

6bf of clear attractive walnut is worth buying for $26, especially if it is 8/4 and you have a need/use for it.

It is 6 bf, that comes out to $4.33 CAD/ bf or by today’s exchange rate $4.21 USD/ bf. That is a very good price.

Good deal. I sell walnut, and the 8/4 brings 1.5 times the 4/4 price. That was a very nice deal.
