So there I was knee deep in hand grenade pins and twinkie wrappers wait no that is another story, I was sitting at my fathers house with my brother in law when someone said catapult. All heck broke loose next thing you know Gary says I think we should make one to chuck punkins. Dad chimes in that if we do it at a smaller level that the show he is in. They both decide that because I do some wood working that I should build it. I of course after a few brews am fully one hundred percent in.

The plan is to make a torsion catapult that is made from construction grade 2×4’s mainly to stay cheap and see if we can. It will be 4’ by 6’ and 4’ tall with an arm 6’. I am estimating the cost at a little less than 70 bucks each for the three of us one you get the rope, lumber, and such.

Looking for ideas or areas to watch and or anyone who has done it.

I and some friends built this one back in ‘98/’99. Lots of hard work from everybody. Chucked a 50-75# rock about 100 yards without any fancy adjustments.
I didn’t get fancy with up loading the pics but there is a couple with us working on it, one of the rock we used, one with the 3 main builders ( I’m the guy in the middle) and one of me signing it.
You guys are going to have great fun let’s get some pics and maybe a video.

that is impressive both in size and in performance. I am not making ours as big, but that is super cool man.

The ones with a rope on the end of the arm that SLINGS something, is a Trebuchet. A catapult is like a teeter totter with a small child sitting on one end when a fat guy jumps out of a tree onto the other end.

A Trebuchet develops much more power. We built one that tossed a VW beetle about 50 yards :)

That was quite some years ago when I was much younger and just out of high school.

Beetle tossing? Geez, the worst thing we ever did was to reassemble one inside a dorm room.
