Hi folks,

Was just wondering if someone might be willing to comment on some craigslist saws?

http://syracuse.craigslist.org/tls/3036799520.html

I haven’t been able to find much info on the Grizzly 1022Z model. Anybody have any opinions on it? It is a right tilt and I’d prefer a left, but otherwise it appears to be a fairly good contractor saw. It’s been upgraded with a Biesemeyer fence, and comes with a dado blade to boot. And I’m thinking I can probably grab it for $250 instead of the $300 asking price.

Everybody seems to rave about the Biesemeyer fences, but it seems to me some of the extruded aluminum fences with t-track might be more utilitarian (easier to mount featherboards, and all kinds of other accessories). That’s a big part of what’s been drawing me towards the Ridgid saws at least.

I’m waiting to hear back from this guy too:

I’d be thrilled with that saw, but not at the $375 he’s asking. It’ll cost me $40ish in gas to get there and back so I told him I’d be working in the $200 to $250 range but haven’t heard back from him. He confirmed last night that he’s still got the saw, but he’s had it listed for well over a month now – I was thinking he might finally be ready to come down on price. Maybe not.

So what are the opinions on the Grizzly, and the Bies fence he’s got on it? Good saw? Or should I hold out for one of the Ridgids?

Thanks very much everyone for all your help in my saw search by the way – your opinions are greatly appreciated!

Either could be good saws once aligned and equipped with a good blade. The Biese fence is a lot nicer than the Ridgid fence IMHO, but the guts of the Ridgid are a better design than those of the Griz 1022 IMO. $375 is too much IMO for what looks to be a used Ridgid TS2424….I think it sold new (with warranty) in the $500 range around 10 years ago.

The guts of the Ridgid are very much like this:

I believe these are the actual guts of a 1022….if not, they’re very similar:

Thanks knotscott – that’s more-or-less what I told him when I counter-offered. Do you think my Counter of $200-250 sounds about right? Too soon to tell, but I’m thinking he may have taken that as an insult and won’t be getting back to me. Just want to make sure I’m in the right ballpark.

I guess – in a perfect world – I should be waiting for a Ridgid then, since it’s much simpler/cheaper/easier to upgrade a fence down the road than the saw’s guts…?

Thanks again!

$200-$250 seems reasonable to me. If $25 more makes the deal, I might do that too depending on how it looks and runs.

harriw, just being nosey here but did the guy in Syracuse respond quickly to you. I sent him an email this morning and hope I didn’t get lost in spam land… or maybe my offer pissed him off? just wondering, thanks.

Hey spongey,

No problem – actually he did. I sent him a note around 10am, and had a reply by 10:30. He was gone most of the day though – I wrote back again fairly quickly but didn’t hear back again until 6:30. He seems pretty easy-going so i doubt you pissed him off. Can’t hurt to send another note.

Hey Spongey, he sent me an email over the weekend and said it was sold. Any chance it was you? I had already decided to keep looking so I’m not upset or anything – just wondering if you wound up with it.
