Topic tags/keywords: online router bits sources

I’m looking to increase the size of my router bit collection, and would prefer to buy them from an online source because of better prices. Where do you guys and gals buy your bits? Also, while I’m asking, what bits do y’all feel that you could not live without? I have a chamfer, cove, ogee, and a couple of round-overs I use for profiles. As well as a few strait bits I use for joinery. I know there are some specialty joinery bits out there (lock miter, etc.). Has anyone tried any of these? Thanks for the help folks.

To name a few…

http://www.coastaltool.com
http://www.amazon.com
http://woodworker.com
http://www.rockler.com

DAGS on “router bit sale,” should give you plenty of sources. Stay away from no-name brands or ask. I would not go to ebay or HF, as you typically get what you pay for.

I like (and not in any order) Whiteside, Amana, Freud and Woodtek bits. But thier are many brands to choose from, I hope others can share thier favorites.

I’ve collected a lot of profile bits over the years but the round over/beading bits are in the can’t live without category.

My strait bits (undersized for today’s ply) also get a lot of use.

Shop around, seems sales are not hard to find.

If you find a good sale, then share!

Happy shopping.

Another source is MLCS - http://mlcswoodworking.com/
CMT is another good brand.

Another site I’ve used is pricecutter.com My father recently purchased their large assortment kit. While I don’t know about how well they will hold up over a long period of time, so far they have taken everything I have thrown at them. They also now have two lines of router bits, not sure of the exact differences (other than price) but the higher end line seems to be “on par” with the rest of the router bit market.

I started a forum topic a month or so ago about people’s thoughts on bits. I got some really good information from the responses…

What’s your 2 bits on router bits?

I am looking at Whiteside bits myself. In the latest Fine Woodworking they tested 18 profile bits and Whiteside’s got the best overall and best value distinctions. Eagle bits were a close second. Whiteside’s are comparable cheaper than most of its competition. You can request a free catalog and price list on their site.

I’ve ordered whiteside bits a couple times from

http://www.holbren.com/

They have free shipping, fast delivery, and pretty good prices.

Here is another one.

I generally use Rockler since a store is very near and I can go right over. If I need a bit for a future project, I usually buy online. I generally use Rockler or MLCS.
