I wanted to throw out an introduction and say hey to everyone here. Im kinda new to using forums so please bare with me. Im an east coaster, and have been eating saw dust for a long time now. After taking a break from wood working and wood turning over the past few years, im back with a vengance so to speak. Currently ive been selling old machinery and upgrading for hopefully the last time. Along with that endevour i have been tearing dopwn and rebuilding what will be the new shop space. 24×18 garage with 14 foot cielings. As far as machinery goes i have a new Grizzly hybrid table saw, 8” joiner, and 17” bandsaw. Dewalt thickness planer, craftsman drill press, grizz dust collection and a couple pother misc machines. No comes my dilema… I was kinda of hoping i might be able to get your folks opinions on a new lathe purchase. I am torn between Jets 1642EVS and grizzly’s new 18×47 EVS lathe. As far as price difference i cant find the Jet any chepaer than 2,295 free shipping, and the girzz is 1,95.00 with 150.00 shipping. Does anyone on here have any info or input as to this new grizz lathe?. I have seen and read many reviews on the JET, needless to say its a nice piece. But if i go with the girzz lathe, i will have some extra cash for some more lumber.

Once again, i just wanted to pop in and say hello to everyone here, and say im glad to be a part of the community. Hopefully learn some new things along the way, and maybee help out myself somewhere down the road. Be safe and keep turning folks. Oh yeah, once i figure out how to do the pic, thing here, ill get and avatar up and some shots of things ive done in the past

Very little can go wrong with a lathe so why not buy a used one, like a General and use the money saved to buy lumber ?

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome christef, prob alot of us east coasters here im hoping. Moron, thansk for chimmin in. Ive always had older used equiptment. Ive never had the pleasure of turning on a new lathe and its something i very much look forward to. I think if i could have found something in good shape used, i would have considered it as opposed to new, but after searching craigslist, and ebay i havent really seen anything.

Welcom aboard always good to have another east coaster here. Norheast or southeast? I hail from NJ, but originally from NY. The nice thing about CL & Ebay, if you keep checking eventually something there is of interest, just have to be willing to wait, I unfortunatley am not that patient, LOL.
