I’m looking into jointers. I noticed that the Grizzly 6” spiral head and 8” normal (linear i guess) head are about the same price. Do the extra 1.5 hp, longer bed and 2” capacity equal or surpass the helical head? It seems like quite a premium for a spiral cutter.

Cleaner cuts less bumps if that makes sense

Any extra length is good

Mine is a 1939 Wadkin and the angle blade which I think

works the same as a helix has proved itself over

and over

I’ll take both, lol:) I’d probably go for the 8” then purchase the spiral head later on. You can’t add two inches in the future, you know:)

Ditto – 8 inch. Get the capacity – - the ability to actually joint a drawerfront or wider stock, in addition to being able to joint LONGER pieces with the longer tables will far outweigh the cutterhead.

The helical cutter heads are great – but capacity trumps it easily.

Go with the 8”. You would rather have the extra 2”. Size DOES matter!

I have the 8” Grizzly. Get the 8”, hands down.

Spiral is nice, but you can get a spiral cutterhead later and install it; I doubt you will find a way to make the tables grow wider though, haha
