Fellow woodworking enthusiasts I am trying to select a sharpening tool. On my radar are the Workshop 3000 and the Veritas MK II. I will be sharpening chisels and plane irons. Any thoughts, recommendations? Perhaps another tool that I should consider?

I have the WS 3000 and love it. I back it up with my oil stones and strop and feel like I have the best of both worlds.

Geez Don you are opening up a can of worms! Sharpening is one of those things that you have to try several methods to come up with what works for you. You will find the Workshop 3000 has it’s fans as does the MK II. I’ve tried quite a few methods and I’ve come to the conclusion that I like a blend of scary sharp and waterstones.

It’s also a matter of practice, practice, practice.

Oh and welcome to LJs!

Before you spend a lot of money try a diamond plate & honing jig, also do a search on “sharpen” on the LJ’s page, there is a lot of good information there
