I found red cedar at both Lowes and HD about a month ago and bought enough to make an Adirondack chair and a small deck table.

The table is made. The chair came up a few boards short so I went to Lowes to get more. What I needed was a 2” wide by 3/4” by 8’. What I found was 2×1x8 this time. It’s a quarter inch wider than I want.

Next time I think I try Shutte for the cedar. I’ll have to cut the boards down to 2” but at least they will be uniform thickness every time.

It looks like the boards have been fed through a planer that had grips on the back that dented the wood too. They are pretty deep and I had to use my orbital sander with 60 grit to dig them out.

I love their pine, but the cedar is terrible.

The Lowes and HD around by me do not carry cedar :( luckily i found a compamy called Wooden Boards and Beams about 25 minutes from me. These guys carry a wide selection and are reasonabley priced, I was able to browse some of thier inventory and I was like a kid in a candy store. I usually just purchase pine & dimensional lumber from the big box houses, and an occasional maple or oak board, it would be nice if they carried cedar since its only a mile and a half away.

I found some cedar here in Virginia Beach at Lowes but it was in horrible shape. I want some to make a raised garden for the wife.

The larger pieces are excellent at Lowes, but the smaller dimensions are terrible, but it’s cheap.
