OK I built these two as part of an iterative process.

Topic tags/keywords: maple alder modern

I built these two guitars as part of a learning process revolving around luthiery (sp?) . Anyway, assembly of a hot rodded strat guitar can be tricky business and a lot more precise than folks realize. I will post a couple more threads when I have time. There guitars were assembled and came pre finished. I am starting from scratch and will post that guitar in progress soon.

The red one – Wild maple top on alder, red dye, maple neck
The blue one – 5a quilt top on alder, blue dye, ebony fret board on figured Anigre neck

Hope you like them.

Excellent. Try to track down a small overarm router if you
are going to build guitars – it’s a huge timesaver whether
you are building electrics or acoustics.

I like the blue one. What kit did you get that from? They both look great.

I did not use a kit. I bought the bodies from a place called warmoth. the necks are also warmoth. The rest of the parts came from my stash. I have enough parts to built 10 guitars.

Forgot, Based on what I hear the only good acoustic kits are from Stew Mac. I find that hard to believe as I think grizzley sells one and i think Martin sells one. I bet those acoustics are great. There are no really good electric kits.

Also, I still had to do fret work with the 2 necks i bought from warmoth. the amount of fret work was very small.

Acoustic kits should be fine. Watch out for a lousy soundboard though.
You don’t want to go to the trouble of building a guitar
only to find out later you should have used a stiffer soundboard.

Pro builders buy 2-3 times the number of soundboards they need,
check them over, and send the duds back.
