Topic tags/keywords: freedom of speech freedom to listen I am posting this because I am a little confused. This is not an attack and I want to make it clear that I do not think badly of the person. I don’t want this to turn into a thing where a person is jumped on or insulted, but I really need to know the answer to this. I have just been blocked in response to actually defending the rights of the person who blocked me. I really want to know what was stated that was so inflammatory. I have no problem with individuals using non-shop talk as a method to discuss their thoughts and beliefs. Someone posts an idea, others respond. That is free speech. I do, however, have serious problems with someone posting their ideas, and then blocking anyone and everyone that does not share the same thoughts. That isn’t freedom, that is dictatorship. If someone is going to get on here and express their fears that our country is losing its democracy, I would expect that person to allow others the same freedoms they expect for themselves. Again, not an attack on the person, but the actions and ideas that I find particularly offensive. David -- There is little that is simple when it comes to making a simple box. |

Thanks for the kind comments. I know that the phrase “fight fire with fire” is a common and popular one. The problem I have with that methodology is that once you use the process you are opposed to in order to accomplish the higher goal, everything is lost. Bullying bullies only proves that bullying works. Same thing with censoring. Silencing others so that you have free reign to expose the “truth” only results in establishing another conspiracy. The logic just boggles my mind. -- There is little that is simple when it comes to making a simple box. |

Maybe a mistake, David? I didn’t see anything in your post that should make him want to block you, and his direct response to you didn’t sound hostile either. Who knows? -- Charlie M. "Woodworking - patience = firewood" |

David C, You are taking the high road and being a better man by not making any personnel attacks… me not so much…Joe is completely off his rocker and a jerk too. He’s doesn’t contribute anything positive to this woodworking site, and I am fighting back by not clicking on anymore of his posts…. ever. I think everyone else should do the same, even though it’s hard not to reply to such ignorance and arrogance. Sorry, I know you said you didn’t want this to turn into a “bully beatdown” with insults and personnel attacks. I just can’t stand the guy and promised myself I wouldn’t read or comment on any of his posts. So this is where I’m venting. -- Lucas, "Someday woodworks will be my real job, until then, there's this http://www.melbrownfarmsupply.com" |

David – Your response was respectful and eloquent. You were the rational one in that interaction. That doesn’t mean you’ll ever be able to rationalize his irrational behavior. -Jack |

Goofy, I didnt see anything that would warrent that. Some people just want to have a temper tantrum, take their ball and go home. |

David: I am also confused. When I make an accusation of something/someone I believe I can take the rebuke, if I started it. Shame on me. -- *Arachnoleptic*: The frantic dance performed just after you've accidently walked through a spider web. |

poopiekat – Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t say it was not a response. I do not claim to be innocent in my post. But there is a difference between a personal attack of a person and a protest of a person’s action. I defend everyone’s right to express themselves in nonshop talk. When I see the blocking feature used so that an individual can fill the space with radical opinion and then silence any that oppose, I find that action reprehensible. Outside of the political sphere, I do not think ill of Joe. I think he is a likeable person. If I were foul in any of my interaction with him, I would fully expect to be silenced. This just wasn’t one of those times. -- There is little that is simple when it comes to making a simple box. |

poopiekat has no room to talk, several weeks ago, i was in craftsman on the lake thread and i said i thought he looked better then poopie, and poope blocked me and called me gay…....so there is a lot of high strung folks making threads that everyone gets wound up, i didn’t see anything wrong with what you said david, personally i find is safer to stay away from the posts that invite trouble, my advise is to really watch what threads you go into, and be ready to have problems with some of these high spirited people, the best to you david, now im getting before someone else blocks me for no good reason…peace….... -- GRIZZMAN ...['''''] |

Personally I agree with you David, (Original post) and in all Honesty I think the Block feature should be removed, if someone has a problem with someone else’s comments than they should not be allowed to post, anything! We are all adults here, and granted, I will be the first to admit, I am plenty immature, if I only wanted positive feedback and people that agree with my opinion, I wouldn’t have had it in me to belong to any forum, website, whatever. I certainly would never post anything. Unless I am receiving personal death threats I wont block anybody, and even then if that happened, “COME AND GET ME!” You can agree with some of the people some of the time and likewise for them, but never all, all of the time, thats what makes everybody who they are. I for one will probably never block anybody, and certainly not you. -- Martin ....always count the number of fingers you have before, and after using the saw. |

Lifes to short to sweat the small stuff and in my book being blocked or blocking someone is small stuff.
