Topic tags/keywords: question sander sanding

Here is my problem, Just many others who will not admit to it. I am always buying cheap sanders and end up killing them in less then a year. Today I sat down and realized that in four years now I have killed: 3 ROS sanders, 3 detail sanders, one 1/4 sheet sander, one 1/3 sheet sander and two belt sanders. Now if you figure each sander at $30 bucks, that would put me in the “HEY DUMMY, STOP WASTEING YOUR MONEY” club or around $300 range. Now the wife sees this as a bad trend and I am looking for advice for a good quality sander. I need two different ones. One will be either a 5” or 6” ROS sander and one for getting into tight spots. Festool is looking good, but they seem to have several different ones and I am not sure which would be best. Oh, for me I do lost of refinishing so sanders get used alot around here( more then any other tool.

Festool 5” ROS, rock solid and well built, I love mine and I’ll bet you won’t find better dust extraction either!
The disks are cheaper than most other (if you buy by 25’s) and last longer

I second Mark’s comment; Just got a Festool 6” for fathers day and was wondering were it’s been all my life. :)

They are not cheap; however neither is replacing equipment on a regular basis.

Take a look at the different reviews, here is the one I did: http://lumberjocks.com/reviews/377

is it possible that you are leaning on the sanders?

That ruins them.

I just posted a review of the Festool 6” ROS, check it out. I am glad I bought it and expect it to by my last.

I beat the crap out of a DeWalt for a decade, only having to replace the pad assembly once. I just got a Bosch to replace it (got it on deep sale for 34 bucks!). Fine Woodworking gave the Bosch a great review for the most consistent scratch pattern.
