I want to install a reversing switch on my shaper. I can’t seem to find one for sale. I did a number of searches on the internet and keep getting hits of tools that already have this switch, but none for sale.

Does anyone know where I could buy one of these?

Thanks,

It most likely involves switching how the starting capacitor is attached, therefore it’s something that you can’t just buy off the shelf, because it’ll have to be wired in differently. But poke around a bit looking at how starting capacitors get wired up, it shouldn’t be that hard once you get the basics of that.

Call an industrial electrical, or automation supply shop, like Torbram Electric Supply. They will be able to tell you exactly what you need, and how to do it.

Ron,

Here is some information on a reversing switch http://ecatalog.squared.com/catalog/173/html/sections/14/17314010.html##

You could probably order it thru an electrical supplier that handles “Square D” products.

I made a reversing switch for my old shaper. It had a 110v motor and there were 2 tabs you moved from one set of lugs to another to reverse direction inside the motor. I took a DPDT switch, to the commons I attached the black and white wires to the plug. On the corresponding connectors, I ran one pair to one set of connectors for clockwise rotation and the other set to the other set of connectors for the counterclockwise rotation. The lugs I removed from the motor as all they did were the connection point for the original electrical cord. I mounted it in an electric box with a cover. Pretty straight forward and used it for over 15 years without a problem.

Hope that helps (assuming you have a comparable motor)

Thanks for all the advice. I think the motor I have is very similar to what Paul described.
