Went to a flea market today and was disappointed because there were only about 5 hand planes in the whole place. It’s a converted Best Buy so it’s a large place too.

Remember this No4 I got the other day at an antique shop?

Well, here it is now. Cleaned and polished.

I also got this Defiance by Stanley. It has no other numbers on it, but it looked almost new, so I picked it up.

The number 4 is a sweet plane. I used it today on a walnut cube I’ve been working on with my No 5 and my number 35. It was the only one to get it smooth all the way across the block. The blade is perfect and I sharpened it on my belt sander with 220 then on my table saw surface with some 500 grit till it cut a hair.

You guys are a tough crowd, but I do have shavings, curls I like to call them.

Walnut sapwood is the wood being shaved.

This plane cost me $6.
